Michael Mei
An aspiring Software Engineer.
Welcome to my personal website.
Let's take a second to get to know a little bit about me.
First off, thank you for taking the time to visit my page. I am delighted to know that I have piqued some interest of yours to bring you here today. I am a recent gradute of Boston University with a BA in computer science. Throughout that past couple of years I have spent countless of hours expanding my skillset through projects. These projects consist of working through web and mobile development, databases and frameworks, and cloud computing.
Right now, I'm interested in further strengthening my full-stack developing skills. I am currently a fellow at Headstarter AI where I will learn to work in a team environment, participating in 5 hackathons, building projects every week in a 7 week program. My goal by the end of this fellowship is to land an interview at a company where I can see myself making a positive impact.
I am not just a computer geek.
Behind the IDEs and terminals, I find peace and fulfillment at the gym where I practice bodybuilding and play volleyball. I have been active in the bodybuilding community for 8 years which is where I learned most about my body and self. I have also played volleyball for 8 years. What started as a fun after-school activity became an undying passion that taught me about my competitive nature, motivating me to consistently be better. Through long hours I was able to obtain the position of captain in my high school varsity team. With this great sense of accomplishment, I continued playing for clubs and organizations outside of my school team. Fast forward to today, I play for intramurals at several gyms.
I proudly present what I have been doing.
Below you will find several projects that showcase different skills that I have gained throughout the past years. I firstly list an About-Me project where I attempted to build my first personal website in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. You can learn even more about me through there.
Secondly I have built my first full-stack application in React with a Flask framework in the backend. This project was sparked by the thought of inefficiency in memorizing hundreds of different passwords. Since I did not want to use notepad or Google Sheets to manage my credentials and I wanted to improve my programming skills, I decided to make a web application to remediate this issue.
Thirdly, I have built a project with a teammate involving Android SDK, Google Material Design, Firebase, and Kotlin. The goal of this project was to combine the best features of different nutrition and strength tracking mobile applications into one.
Lastly, in a team of 3, I am collaborating to build a full-stack web application to greatly decrease the time spent in managing job applications. I know that I, for example, spend too much time recording the details of a job application on a Google Sheet. To resolve this issue we decided to automate this logging on a web application. This project is being built with Amazon RDS, PostgreSQL, Node, Express, and WebDriverIO.
You can find details for these projects and more here.
